Route: Bishkek – Jety-Oguz valley – Terskey-Ala-Too range – Town Karakol – Lake Issyk-Kul – Bishkek

Description

The unique climate of Issyk-Kul and its surroundings, which combines the peculiarities of both mountainous and maritime, is conditioned by the presence of a giant, natural accumulator – Lake Issyk-Kul. Where else in the northern latitudes of the world can you get such a combination: hot sun, the scent of coniferous forests and the refreshing coolness of a sea breeze. Journey along the Terskey where the air itself is salubrious – it is an excellent opportunity to rejuvenate yourself and collect some unforgettable impressions.

Itinerary

Day 1: 3 July/17 July. Bishkek (ca. 33 Km)

Arrival in Bishkek (800 m above sea level). Transfer to B&B. Rest. Breakfast. City tour in Bishkek. Visits of Museums, eastern bazaar, souvenir shops. Or 1 day radial trek in Ala-Archa gorge to “Ratzcek” house. Lunch. Back to Bishkek. Dinner. Overnight.

Day 2: 4 July/18 July. Bishkek – Jety Oguz valley (ca. 370 Km)

Breakfast. Early morning transfer to Jety-Oguz valley (370 km) along coast of Issyk-Kul Lake. Lunch on the way. Shepherds tell a lot of legends about the beautiful, famous, red rocks known as “Seven Bulls” and “Broken Heart”. Taste Kymyz (mare’s milk). Accommodation in yurts base camp. Dinner. Overnight in «Flower valley». (2200m).

Day 3: 5 July/19 July. Jety Oguz valley – Pass Tilety (ca. 20 Km)

Breakfast. Trekking following a shepherd for 16 km will bring you to the Pass Tilety. Lunch. Tent camp accommodation. Dinner. Overnight(3200m).

Day 4: 6 July/20 July. Pass Tilety – Karakol Gorge (ca. 20 Km)

Breakfast. A three-hour walk passing Tilety (3800 m), will bring you to the Karakol Gorge. Lunch. A 10 km walk along an ancient nomads’ path will lead you to a tent camp near a nomads’ stopping place. Dinner. Overnights in tents.

Day 5: 7 July/21 July. Karakol Gorge (ca. 8 Km)

Breakfast. A shorter hike, of about 8 km from Karakol Gorge to a Shelter. Lunch and dinner. Overnight base camp.

Day 6: 8 July/22 July. Karakol Gorge – Keldyke Gorge

Breakfast. Hiking to a  Mountain Lake called Ala-Kul (3600 m). It is more than 70 meters deep and of incomparable beauty. From the shore of the lake you can see a beautiful glacier which is the source of the lake. Hike through the Ala-Kul pass (3860 m) to the Keldyke Gorge. Lunch. From the Pass you will have an excellent view of the five thousand mountain peaks of Terskey Ala-Too – including Karakol peak, Djigit peak and Tashtanbek peak. The tent camp will be waiting for you in this wonderful place which is surrounded by magnificent rocks, and from where a lot of streams begin from the glaciers. Dinner. Tents overnight.

Day 7: 9 July/23 July. Keldyke Gorge – Karakol

Breakfast. Four-hour walk to the Altyn-Arashan resort, which is situated 2450 m above sea level. Lunch. There you can take a bath in thermal water. You will never be able to forget the sight of the snow on Peak Palatka (Tent) 5260 m or “Swallow’s Nest Pool”, nestling beneath the open sky. Transfer to Karakol (2 hours) in the afternoon. Accommodation in B&B. Dinner. Overnight in Karakol.

Day 8: 10 July/24 July.. Karakol – north Issyk-Kul (ca.160 Km)

Breakfast. Transfer to Issyk-Kul Resort Center along the North coast of Issyk-Kul Lake (160 km). Accommodation in a small hotel. Lunch. Rest. Dinner.

Day 9: 11 July/25 July. Issyk-Kul

Breakfast. Day at Issyk-Kul. Rest, boating along Issyk-Kul. Visits of petrogliphies and ethnographical museum. Lunch. Dinner. Overnights in the Issykl-Kul hotel.

Day 10: 12 July/26 July. Issyk-Kul – Bishkek (ca. 250 Km)

Breakfast. Transfer to Bishkek (250 km). On the way visit of Burana tower at the ancient city Balasagyn (XI-XIII). Lunch on the way. Accommodation in B&B. Dinner. Overnight in Bishkek.

Day 11: 13 July/27 July. Departure

Transfer to the airport. Departure.

Itinerary

Day 1: June 26 / July 10. Bishkek.

Arrival to Bishkek. Transfer to the Bishkek — Grand Hotel (***), relaxation and breakfast. City Tour (Oriental Bazaar, Central square Ala — Too). Dinner. Continuation of the tour in the city. Dinner in the cafe.

Day 2: June 27 / July 11th. Bishkek - Kochkor. (200km)

After breakfast drive to Kochkor. On the way, visit Burana tower. Lunch in a small restaurant. Accommodation at CBT home stays in Kochkor. In the evening felt carpet making show. Dinner. Overnight in home stays.

Day 3: 28 June / 12 July. Kochkor - Saralazhaz - Akbel.

After breakfast (about 09:00) we go to Djailoo SaralaSaz by car (app. 1 hour). There we meet the family that is lending us their horses for the trip. Start of our horse-back riding trip. We leave at about 11:00, riding over alpine meadows where you see a lot of different yurts. We arrive at Djailoo Ak-Bel in the afternoon (about 4 hours).We are awaited by the family with kymyz, the national drink made from fermented mares milk. Dinner. Overnight in the yurt.

Day 4: June 29 / July 13. Akbel - Pass Buchuk - Cook.

We leave the Djailoo at about 08:00 after breakfast. We go down to the valley Irizuu over some hills. We start our way up the mountain to reach Buchuk. Lunch. Then we go up to Djailoo Cook, which is situated on a place of breathtaking beauty. At the Djailoo, we have tea as usual and a traditional dinner. Overnight in the yurt.

Day 5: June 30 / July 14th. Cook - Pass Kuchbel - Koldoshuu.

Breakfast. We start at about 09:00 to conquer the pass Kuch Bel. A bit further up, we have a perfect view on the surrounding snow-covered mountain ranges and some neighboring valleys. From there on, we start to get up to the pass. We plan to go down by a gorge produced by a small mountain river. After the descent, we have a rest on a small elevation on the slope, where there are some rocks in the back. Pick nick. In the afternoon, we arrive to Djailoo Koldosuu, where the family awaits us with dinner. Overnight in the yurt.

Day 6: 01 of July / July 15th. Koldoshuu - Pass Kyzylkaya - Utor.

We get up at about 08:00 and after breakfast start to cross some hills (and also the border between Kochkor and Naryn region) to arrive at the Djailoo KyzylKia, where we have lunch with a charming family. Afterwards, we cross the pass KyzylKia (2600m) and stay at the Djailoo Utor, which is situated in alpine meadows with the most beautiful mountain flowers you could imagine. This day is a shorter one, with only about 3 � 4 hours on horse, so it will give you some time to rest on the Djailoo and to recollect your energies. Dinner and overnight in the yurt.

Day 7: July 2 / July 16th. Utor - Kilemche - Sonkul.

We start our trek at about 08:00. We go over some hills and small passes to Djailoo Kilemche. On the way, you will see a variety of mountain gorges. At the Djailoo Kilemche, we have to cross a river, and then start our way up to our last mountain pass. On the way, we have lunch on a beautiful pasture, and some rest. On the top, you can catch the first view of SonKul (3016m), of its waters between green hills. We can have a rest in a yurt and some tea and a snack. In the late afternoon, we do the last part of our tour to the final yurt further to the east of the lake. Dinner. Overnight in the yurt.

Day 8 July 03 / July 17. Sonkul.

Free day at the lake. It is a day of rest.

Day 9 July 04 / July 18. Son-Kul - Issyk-Kul.

Right after breakfast, drive to Lake Issyk-Kul Lake (North Shore Bosteri village area, 300 km). Accommodation in a boarding house, a day off, relax on the beach.

Day 10: July 5 / July 19th. Issyk-Kul - Bishkek.

After breakfast drive to Bishkek (260 km), lunch on the way. In the city you will have time to visit the market and buy gifts for friends and family.

Day 11, July 06 / July 20.

Departure. Airport transfer.

Little language course: Kul — Lake, Kymyz (national drink of the kyrgyz people, made of fermented mare’s milk), Djailoo — Summer pasture.
